The Director General of the Cyprus Hotel Association (CHA), Mr. Zacharias Ioannides, met on 6 November 2019 in a constructive atmosphere, with representatives of the Energy & Environment Service of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) and the Institute of Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE). The aim of the meeting was to inform CHA about the Hotels4Climate project launch. The project is funded by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) and aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the Greek and Cypriot hotel industries. The implementation of the project is led by OEB. During the meeting, it was discussed how the members of CHA can participate in the project and how they will be benefited from their involvement.
The first actions of the project will start in December 2019 with visits to selected hotels in order to record the current situation of energy use, energy and greenhouse gas emissions saving as well as a selection of good practices. The benefits of hotels from participating in the activities of the Hotels4Climate project are:
- Study visits to hotels-good practices in Greece and Germany, as well as host of hotel executives from Greece and Germany to hotels-good practices in Cyprus.
- Capacity building and training workshops of hotel staff on possible GHG reduction measures and energy saving practices.
- Access to online tools and information hub developed within the Hotels4Climate project.
- Networking opportunities with financial institutions, stakeholders and hotel executives.
The participation of CHA in the Hotels4Climate project will be of great benefit to the hotel industry and at the same time contribute to the collective effort made to facilitate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the hotel sector in Cyprus.
