The Cyprus Federation of Employers & Industrialists (OEB) successfully organized a workshop on good practices within the framework of the project Hotels4Climate “Facilitating Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the Hotel Sector of Cyprus and Greece”, on Monday, January 13th of 2020, at LANDMARK Hotel.
The main speakers of the workshop were Ms. Anthi Charalambous, Director of the Energy & Environment Department of OEB, Ms. Maria Frangou, Researcher at the Laboratory of Renewable Energy Systems of the Technical University of Crete, Mr. Sotiris Mylonas, external expert of the Institute of Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE), Ms. Athina Panayiotou, General Director of the Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS) and Mr. Dimitris Verelis, Head of the Green Banking & Development Programs Unit of the Piraeus Bank Group.
Representatives of hotel associations, relevant government departments, financial institutions and hoteliers participated in the workshop. During the workshop, the following were presented: the goals of Hotels4Climate project, examples, good practices and tools such as Nearly Zero Energy Hotels (neZEH), good practices followed by hotels in Greece, standards related to environmental performance of hotels, as well as financial products to businesses for energy savings and emission reduction (Private Financing 4 Energy Efficiency – PF4EE). The presentations were followed by oral interventions by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, the Directorate-General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development (DG EPCD) and the Energy Service, Ministry of Energy, Commerce & Industry and Department of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment. The interest of the participants was high and this was reflected in the discussion and comments that followed.
